Ventura beat Santa Barbara 24-21 on Friday night in a Channel League matchup at Ventura High School, lifting the Cougars to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.

The win was the Cougars' first over the Dons since 2016, ending a decade of frustration in one of the Channel League's oldest rivalries. Ventura coach Tim Garcia told the Ventura County Star before the game that Santa Barbara had been a stubborn problem for his program: "They look good on film," said Ventura coach Tim Garcia. "For whatever reason, they seem to have had our number there for a little bit."
