About the Santa Barbara Times

The Santa Barbara Times is an independent online newspaper for Santa Barbara and the South Coast. Our parent company is Tribune Publications.

We cover Santa Barbara as a working place, not a postcard: City Hall and the county supervisors, the harbor and the Channel, water and energy, the airport and the local economy, the arts and the neighborhoods. We cover a planning commission with the same care we give the waterfront.

Our standards follow the tradition of the Society of Professional Journalists' Code of Ethics: seek truth and report it, minimize harm, act independently, and be accountable and transparent.

We keep news and opinion strictly separate. Reporters report; they do not take positions on the matters they cover. Opinion pieces are labeled as opinion and signed by their authors.

We answer to no interest but our readers. Send us news tips, tell us what we missed, and hold us to these promises, loudly, when we fall short.
