The National Weather Service expects 80 to 95 degrees on Santa Barbara County's Central Coast beaches through 8 p.m. Thursday, while Santa Barbara faces a high of 88 under an extended extreme heat warning.

The National Weather Service has placed Santa Barbara County's Central Coast beaches under a heat advisory starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with temperatures of 80 to 95 degrees expected through 8 p.m. Thursday. The advisory, issued early Tuesday by the Weather Service's Los Angeles/Oxnard office, also covers San Luis Obispo County beaches.
The beach advisory arrives on top of an extreme heat warning already covering the Santa Barbara area, which the Weather Service extended through 8 p.m. Thursday. Forecasters expect a high of 88 in Santa Barbara on Wednesday and 85 on Thursday, with lows around 70 overnight.

The Weather Service warns that hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses. It advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms, staying out of the sun and checking on relatives and neighbors.
Forecasters added that very hot weather may continue into the second week of October and that the warning could be extended.
