Federal Agents Detain at Least 17 in Santa Maria and Guadalupe; Man Seized at Allan Hancock College
Immigrant rights group 805Undocufund says 16 people were taken in Santa Maria and one in Guadalupe on Monday. The college's president says the campus was not told federal agents would be on site.

Federal immigration agents swept through Santa Maria and Guadalupe early this week, detaining at least 17 people on Monday, Oct. 5, immigrant rights group 805Undocufund said, as reported by the Santa Barbara News-Press. The group said 16 people were taken in Santa Maria and one in Guadalupe.
One of the detentions took place at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria. KPRL Radio reported that agents arrested a man Monday morning in parking lot 2 after he dropped his daughter off at the college, then left the campus.

Allan Hancock College Superintendent-President Kevin Walthers said the administration did not "participate or assist with the enforcement action" and that the school was not notified that federal agents would be on campus, according to KPRL.
Federal officials had not publicly confirmed the number of detentions or described the scope of the operation as of Wednesday morning.
