Public Library Opens Its Tool Library With a Launch Party Thursday, Checkout Starting Friday
The Santa Barbara Public Library will preview its new circulating collection of gardening, home repair and DIY tools on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Faulkner Gallery. The tools can be borrowed starting Friday, Oct. 23.

Residents who need a tool for one project and do not own it will soon be able to borrow one from the public library. The Santa Barbara Public Library is adding a circulating Tool Library collection, and it will show the collection off at a launch party on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Faulkner Gallery at the Central Library, according to the library's event calendar.
The collection covers tools for gardening, home repair and do-it-yourself projects, the library says. Party visitors can try the kind of tasks the tools are meant for: the calendar listing promises a chance to check out DIY books, find a stud, dig for tools and decorate a mini measuring tape, while supplies last.

Borrowing starts the day after the party. Items in the Tool Library collection will be available for checkout starting Friday, Oct. 23, the library says.
The tool collection sits inside the library's broader Library of Things, the circulating collection of non-book items the library points borrowers to when a project needs equipment rather than reading material. The launch party listing is aimed at adults and is classed by the library as a special event.
The Central Library is at 40 East Anapamu Street. The library's news page is carrying the launch for borrowers planning a home improvement project without the tools the job requires.
