The California Department of Motor Vehicles announced on Oct. 16 that its Santa Barbara office at 535 Castillo St. will close temporarily for renovations beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, according to the DMV announcement. The office is scheduled to reopen at 8 a.m. on Friday, January 15.

Improvements will include new flooring, carpet, furniture, interior and exterior paint, upgraded data cables and restrooms, the DMV said.

Until the renovations are complete, customers can visit the Goleta office at 7127 Hollister Ave., #24, which the DMV lists as 12 miles from the Santa Barbara office, the Ventura office at 4260 Market St., listed as 32 miles away, or the Oxnard office at 4050 Saviers Road, listed as 40 miles away.

Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit, the agency said. It encouraged customers to use its online services and other service channels to complete transactions such as eligible driver license and vehicle registration renewals, and to use the Service Advisor on its website to learn about options for completing DMV tasks.

The DMV also urged customers to sign up for paperless vehicle registration and driver license renewal notices through a secure online account at dmv.ca.gov.
